What We Believe

Everyone at Donwood is exploring what they believe and how to live out that belief.

None of us have it all figured out  - some have just begun the journey, others are stretching into new aspects of faith that they haven’t lived into before, others are living a strong pattern of faith that leads them to compassionate living and helps to support many others in their life.

No matter how your beliefs have evolved, there is a place here for you in the conversation of ideas and belief that shapes our lives together.

We are, of course, a part of the United Church and fit into the belief patterns of that broad community of faith.  Below you will find the words of the United Church creed which we use in worship and  this link to a much longer statement of faith of the United Church called the Song of Faith that opens up the United Church’s understandings in a fuller way through its poetry.

We hope you will come and join the conversation and add your insights about God and Jesus Christ to the developing faith of all who are part of our church family.

We are not alone,

    we live in God's world.

We believe in God:

who has created and is creating,

    who has come in Jesus,

       the Word made flesh,

       to reconcile and make new,

who works in us and others

       by the Spirit.

We trust in God.

We are called to be the Church:

    to celebrate God's presence,

to live with respect in Creation,

    to love and serve others,

to seek justice and resist evil,

to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen,

       our judge and our hope.

In life, in death, in life beyond death,

    God is with us.

We are not alone.

    Thanks be to God.
